Research that Benefits Children and Families

Blog Assignment Week 3
If I possessed the means and knowledge to conduct a research study based on the field of early education I would choose to focus the study on “The Health and Well-Being of Children with Life Threatening Illnesses.” The research would focus on heart disease which according to Deanna Dean (2008) is the #1 Killer in America starting at Childhood. Unbeknown to some people who think that only adults and seniors can be diagnosed with a heart disease, sadly so can children. Heart disease threatens our children as well and can even begin in the womb if the mother’s diet is insufficient during her pregnancy (Dean, 2008). My research would be conducted to help find a cure to this disease by first studying pregnant women and children who both have and do not have this disease.
Dean  (2008) states, “In the summer of 2002, The American Heart Association (AHA) recommended that health care professionals start measuring children's blood pressure at age three and cholesterol at age five. They also recommend that children with high cholesterol levels should be given cholesterol lowering statin drugs as an early treatment. This is alarming for many reasons; one being the harmful side effects of these drugs.” My research will help find a cure that will eliminate the need for a drug that has any negative side effects that could possibly harm pregnant women, children, and their families. I think that this would be a positive contribution to society as a whole because it helps everyone and not just one particular group.

My Personal Research Journey

Blog Assignment- Week 2
For my topic of interest I choose to focus on “The Under Appreciated Field of Early Education.” This topic is based off of my own personal and professional opinion and experiences in the early education field. I have worked in the field of early education for 10 years. I have seen a lot of change but not significant enough to say that our field of education is at the top of everyone’s list of concern. It took some thought to come up with areas of research interest based on my main topic. I have come up with a few subtopics to touch base on during this course that will hopefully help me shed light on our field of study…
1.     Early Education, is it important and why?
2.     Benefits of Early Education
3.     Difficulties of awareness of the field, funding, and compensation to provide quality care and education to the young
I know this is a broad topic but, it is one that is very important to me. So, if any of my colleagues have any suggestions or advice for my topic and where they might like to see this research go or if there are any resources that you can share/offer please feel free to send me an email to robin.miller4@waldenu.edu I would greatly appreciate it. I wish you all the best with our class and if there are any resources that I can assist with during our time together in this class I will be more than happy to help.
