Research that Benefits Children and Families

If I possessed the means and knowledge to conduct a research study based on the field of early education I would choose to focus the study on “The Health and Well-Being of Children with Life Threatening Illnesses.” The research would focus on heart disease which according to Deanna Dean (2008) is the #1 Killer in America starting at Childhood. Unbeknown to some people who think that only adults and seniors can be diagnosed with a heart disease, sadly so can children. Heart disease threatens our children as well and can even begin in the womb if the mother’s diet is insufficient during her pregnancy (Dean, 2008). My research would be conducted to help find a cure to this disease by first studying pregnant women and children who both have and do not have this disease.
Dean  (2008) states, “In the summer of 2002, The American Heart Association (AHA) recommended that health care professionals start measuring children's blood pressure at age three and cholesterol at age five. They also recommend that children with high cholesterol levels should be given cholesterol lowering statin drugs as an early treatment. This is alarming for many reasons; one being the harmful side effects of these drugs.” My research will help find a cure that will eliminate the need for a drug that has any negative side effects that could possibly harm pregnant women, children, and their families. I think that this would be a positive contribution to society as a whole because it helps everyone and not just one particular group.

  1. Hi Robin. Wow, this would an incredible paper to work on especially that the field of medicine is very well advanced in today’s world. It is always sad when a child is diagnosed with an illness, yet it cost billions to find a cure. In my opinion, money is not the object here - - children, disabled and the elderly are the main reason such studies should be initiated early. Terrific topic to discuss about Robin…

  2. Robin what a great topic. I think your contributions to this cause would be great. Heart disease is the number one killer, and it is hard on families that have children who suffer from this illness. Once again very good topic, and I hope one day there is a cure for all childhood diseases.

  3. Robin,

I would love to see an end to any illness but especially heart disease. My cousin was born with a hole in his heart and did not live past 5 days. It would be amazing to find a cure for such an important organ in our body that keeps us living in our soul and physical being.
